ShowHouse Santa Fe 2017
THEME: “WEST OF CONTEMPORARY - A JOURNEY IN BLACK & WHITE”
The 2017 Showhouse Santa Fe theme, "West of Contemporary - A Journey in Black & White," was a bold and artistic exploration of contrasts and simplicity. This theme challenged designers to reinterpret Western design elements through a contemporary lens, using a monochromatic color palette. The black and white motif created a dramatic and sophisticated atmosphere, focusing on textures, shapes, and the interplay of light and shadow.
This theme invited designers to blend the rustic charm and ruggedness of the West with modern minimalism and elegance. The use of black and white provided a canvas for showcasing the beauty of natural materials, traditional Southwestern patterns, and sleek contemporary designs. It emphasized the importance of balance and harmony in interior design, highlighting how contrasting elements can coexist and enhance each other.
Incorporating this theme, designers had the opportunity to experiment with various materials like leather, wood, metal, and textiles, creating spaces that were both timeless and avant-garde. The theme was a nod to the aesthetic appeal and an homage to the cultural blend that defines Santa Fe - a city where contemporary art and age-old traditions merge seamlessly.

HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY: SOL Y LUNA ESTATE AT 5200 OLD SANTA FE TRAIL
Nestled in the Foothills of the Sanger De Cristo Mountains and overlooking Santa Fe, the 36-acre property features hand-forged wrought-iron railings, diamond-troweled plaster walls, and custom cabinetry and floors of imported stone, marble, ceramic tile, and hardwoods (including Hickory and Quarter-Sawn Oak). There are also unusually large windows and skylights, custom drapery, and wooden-beam Vegas.
The original home was built in the early 1940s. Over the next 70 years, additional land was acquired, and the property was renovated and expanded, and many site improvements and buildings were precisely designed and integrated into the current setting. Care was taken to maintain the integrity of the Pueblo-style architecture.
