Q&A with Heather French, French & French Interiors
GET TO KNOW HEATHER FRENCH ...
Where do you find inspiration when starting a new project?
In color! I’m always looking for a color clue in the clients existing pieces and jump off from there with a fabric scheme.
Where did you grow up? Has that had an influence on your design aesthetic?
I grew up in Southwest Florida on the Gulf Coast. It definitely influenced my design aesthetic. I love light, bright and airy. Fun colors, antiques with a touch of modern. I grew up scouting the best florida antique stores and flea markets. Vintage finds are the best in a retirement community! I also became really aware that I love authentic places with a real point of view... hence loving and living in Santa Fe!
What inspired (most excited) you about this year's theme / house?
We love Mexican colors and textiles. The idea that we are really able to go crazy with color is really exciting! I’ve always used hot pink and bright colors in our designs, but this year we are going to really take it over the top in a dramatic yet elegant way.
Is there a design rule you love to break?
All of them!
If you were reborn a piece of furniture or decor object, what would it be and why?
A gilded french settee with an amazing Pierre Frey upholstery. They have great lines, a little bit of glam and you can really have fun with the fabric you choose. Perfect in every way!
What would be your dream project?
We would LOVE to do a boutique hotel!
Finish the sentence: Every room needs _________.
